NEW DREADLOCK CREATION
THE DREADFUL LOCKS CROCHET METHOD
- Minimum length required is 5 inches all around.
- If you have loose, un-knotted hair; meaning you have not started any type of neglect or rip and twist method, then you are in the right place! Section size, dreadlock size, and overall outcome will depend on the texture, thickness and type of hair you have. Some installs of new dreadlocks may take more than one session to complete, so please be patient....TRUST THE PROCESS! |
- The method I use involves backcombing and crochet, however with my method, minimal/no length is lost with routine upkeep. It is recommended that 6-8 weeks after installation, full maintenance is done to ensure they are locking properly and not shrinking up too much.

The client above had her dreadlocks created and maintained by me every 3-4 months for the last TWO YEARS (pictured right) as well as taking amazing care of them at home; including palm rolling, separating and washing/drying properly.

Full Head of Dreadlocks
- A follow up appointment should be made 6-8 weeks after installation to tighten and retrain any rebelling dreadlocks and continue the locking process. Following that you may come back for maintenance as you see fit in roughly 3-4 months. The dreadlocks closest to the bottom tend to shrink due to higher friction.
- At home care for this method involves thoroughly washing the scalp and dreadocks 1-2 times a week with dreadlock safe shampoo, and separating the dreadlocks after each wash to make sure no unwanted large sections form. It is recommended to wash in the morning. You can palm roll each dreadlock to preserve as much length as possible after each wash (this stretches out the dread). Never go to bed with wet dreadlocks.

Partial Head of Dreadlocks
- Partial Dreadlocks can range from 1 simple "pet dread" to 10, 20, 30 etc. The area starting from the nape of the neck up to the crown of the head is considered Partial. My standard method is used for the creation of this look.

Following that you may come back for maintenance as you see fit in roughly 2-3 months. The dreadlocks closest to the bottom tend to shrink due to higher friction. Extensions are recommended for those who plan to keep just partial dreadlocks with their loose hair. |

- This method is for someone you wants to experience having the best of both worlds. This look is "High Maintenance" but worth it!

Dreadlock Extensions
- Additional care for dreadlock extensions includes finger brushing loose ends on DRY hair and adding moisture to them with a dreadlock safe serum or oil. Dreadlock extensions are not palm rolled or pulled on to prevent slippage. They last 1-3 years depending on the condition and care of them (brown hair lasts longer than blonde). Maintenance is required 6-8 weeks after install to ensure they are locking in. After that, dreadlock extensions allow for a must easier journey than with just natural hair as the added weight helps keep them neater and growing!
